If you’re a regular to Habitat, chances are you’ve heard us talking about this thing called “Simple Skills” - and if you haven’t, keep up people!
Simple Skills is a sell-out event held on the last Friday of every month by the Department of Simple Things.
Simple Skills #4 – Cooking with Smoke, which was held on Friday July 27, was a huge success and SOLD OUT within days of tickets being released. No surprise there as tickets were an absolute bargain at just $20 each which included beers, snacks, venison, BBQ, a Mr Simple T-shirt and prizes too!
This fantastic evening brought together people of all ages to learn about sourcing venison in a sustainable way, and introduced methods of preparing, flavouring and cooking the meat - Three Blue Ducks Style!
Hosted by eponymous Byron Bay locals Darren Robertson and Zac Knight, a film was shown of Mark LeBrooy hunting, killing and butchering the deer - the same animal whose meat was discussed and then served for guests to sample. Talk about 'paddock to plate' dining.
There was so much food (and beer, of course) everyone got their fill. The venison was incredible - perfectly pink and succulent and delicious!
