Originally a hodgepodge of mechanics, surfboard shapers and artists, Byron's Arts & Industry Estate has evolved, while remaining the commercial and creative heart of the town. It's also a great place to eat and drink if you know where to go, which is easy with our top 10 list.

_______

BARRIO

Made to feel like a home away from home, Barrio is all about bringing the local community together in a relaxed environment for delicious food and drink. With a new in-house bakery, serving fresh pizzas, pies, quiches and pastries daily, there's always something scrumptious to eat. Or just grab a bevvy and relax in the sunny courtyard. Verdict: Raising the Barrio.

VAGABOND

Everyone's always smiling around Vagabond, which isn't surprising when you whoof down anything from this ever-popular plant-based cafe. A brekkie and lunchtime fave, you can't go wrong with any one of their beautiful (and nutritious) meals, smoothies, or sweet treats. Verdict: The name's Bond... Vagabond... licenced to kill (your hunger).

Famous for their brews, Stone & Wood brewery's canteen also happens to be one of the best lunchtime options around, offering a small but super tasty menu, which changes regularly, keeping things interesting. Operated by the legends at 100 Mile Table, every dish pairs well with one of the S&W beers, so you might as well grab a schooner while you're there. Verdict: Liquid / lunch.

SUPER BOWLS

One of the newer kids on the "A&I" block, Super Bowls does exactly what it says on the tin – they make healthy and delicious bowls of goodness. Heavy on yummy salads and veg options, all their meat is cooked over a wood fire, using slow and traditional cooking techniques, making everything super moreish. Verdict: Nice bowling.

BUSY BIRD COFFEE

A family run café and coffee roastery, Busy Bird is one of the more chilled places to grab your daily dose of caffeine, contrary to their name. Run by a coffee roasting guru, who's obsessed with making the best beans possible, the brews are bang on, and there's always plenty of parking, which seems like a funny thing to mention, until you try and get a spot elsewhere. Verdict: A busy bird in the hand is worth two less superior coffees.

TONES

You know that friend who left your hometown early and lived overseas for most of their life? The one that spent time in Europe, working for a fashion house, before moving to Japan and doing time at a cool design studio. They wear different clothes, they've watched different movies, they listen to different music. In a word, they're worldly. Tones is that person in cafe form. Verdict: Tones def!

This spot used to be little more than a TAB dressed up as a bog-standard pub, but the North Byron Hotel has been taken over and totally transformed into one of the best all-round options for dining. With heaps of food options, a good wine list, and the best beer garden in the Shire, the cherry on top is that you can catch the solar train into town from right across the road. Verdict: North star.
