EMMA FROM BENDE

Emma Siebold Bende

This week, we spoke to Emma Seibold from Bende (pronounced "bend"), on her inspiration and vision for Habitat's exclusive yoga and pilates studio...

How long have you been living and working in Byron Bay, Emma?

I live in Mullumbimby and I love it here. We have a beautiful one acre property that is leafy and gorgeous, right in town. The energy is just amazing. It’s so tranquil, yet I still feel totally plugged in because of the amazing cafes, retail and people who live here.

We've been here now for 2 ½ years. Before that my husband and I were living in Bondi and running our business Barre Body (they have 9 studios in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane). We decided on a tree change and have never looked back.

How long has Bende been part of your business portfolio?

Bende opened at Habitat on 30th September last year. We were one of the first to open in the precinct so it’s been very exciting watching everyone else move in.

What was the attraction for Bende to be part of Habitat?

I just really loved the idea of creating a community within a community. All of my studios are built around creating a beautiful community to share the experience and what better place to do that in Byron Bay then at Habitat.

Sounds like the perfect fit! What sort of classes can visitors expect to find at Bende?

Bende is a mindful movement studio offering yoga, pilates, barre and reformer classes as well as teacher training and community events such as our New Moon and Full Moon classes, sound bath meditations and goddess groups.

That’s quite a mix! How do you and your business support the Habitat ethos then - the Live, Work, Play mentality?

Bende was specifically created for Byron Bay. I wanted something boutique and beautiful and special and the energy of Habitat really complemented the energy I wanted to create for Bende.

What type of person would enjoy a Bende class?

Someone who wants to tone their body and attend to their wellbeing and piece of mind at the same time - all in a relaxed, beautiful environment.

What are some upcoming plans for the studio?

I am most excited for the Barre Teacher Training this month and Pilates Teacher Training in October. An incredible way to build our community of teachers.

If you had to choose, what is your favourite class?

I love them all and they each have such a different flavour. For toning, I recommend, Pilates, barre and our reformer classes and for connection and flow, I love vinyasa and yin. We have a range of classes to meet all levels and interests.

As a local, what is your insider tip for visitors to Byron Bay?

The Tea Tree Lake and Whites Beach are my two favourite places.
